วาฬเพชรฆาต

เมื่อเดือนมีนาคมที่ผ่านมา 'วิกี' วาฬเพชฌฆาต ให้กำเนิดลูกสาวตัวน้อย หลังตั้งท้องนานถึง 18 เดือน ด้วยการผสมเทียมกับวาฬหนุ่ม จากซานฟรานซิสโก ประเทศสหรัฐอเมริกา

'วาฬเพชฌฆาต' หรือชื่อที่นิยมเรียกทั่วไปว่า 'ออครา' เป็นสัตว์สังคม เลี้ยงลูกด้วยนม ตระกูลเดียวกับโลมา มีแหล่งที่อยู่อาศัยในมหาสมุทรบริเวณขั้วโลกเหนือ เรื่อยไปถึงแถบทะเลเขตร้อนของขั้วโลกใต้

ในบางกลุ่ม วาฬเพชฌฆาตมีองค์ประ กอบครอบครัวในลักษณะเพศเมียเป็นจ่าฝูง แถมยังขึ้นชื่อเรื่องเทคนิคและลีลาการล่าเหยื่อ รวมทั้งการสื่อสารด้วยโทนเสียงเฉพาะในกลุ่ม ที่ถ่ายทอดจากรุ่นสู่รุ่น จนเป็นวัฒนธรรมทางพฤติกรรมที่น่าสนใจ
